January 2022 – “RESOLUTIONS”

As we come towards the end of January, it’s the time of year again where I typically make my annual joke – “My New Year’s Resolution is to be more DECISIVE!”, the deliberate irony being that it has taken me weeks to reach that decision and that I’m probably making my resolution about a week after most people have already given up on theirs.
I’m probably old enough to finally retire that joke now…
My actual resolution, you’ll (hopefully) be glad to know, is to commit fully to the completion and release of my fourth novel…
A little backstory: my next novel release, which I will call A.P.I.P. for now, is going to be nothing short of epic. It is dark and deep, psychological and intense, gut-wrenching and with some extremely dramatic twists and turns. It might well be my most ambitious writing project to date! The plot idea is actually the first idea I ever came up with, around the same time as I developed the story for ‘Only When Cornered’ (which years later became my second published novel), and so the idea has been bubbling around in my brain for many years now. A an early (long lost) draft of A.P.I.P. was my first foray into the world of literary fiction, and the first of many baby steps that lead to me being the writer I am today. The concept has been on the back burner for about a decade. I’m glad of the wait now though. There was no way that I could have done the complex storylines the justice that they deserve back when my writing style was still in its infancy. As every writer and book lover knows, an author’s voice grows and develops over time. It is as much a part of the process as the endless hours of research and proofreading that an author goes through while creating novels.
Not only that, but – being the restless soul that I am – I’ve also conceived, plotted, mapped and begun writing a manuscript for what I intend to be my FIFTH novel. This time, I’ll be flexing my comedy writing muscles once again for another zany tale, and writing in a first person narrative for the first time ever. But more about that later… …In the meantime, thank you to all those who are liking the posts, reading the books and generally supporting an emerging indie author like myself. I cannot wait to share new material with you all this year!
