Welcome, everyone! As you can see, I’ve finally got around to creating a regular blog. I thought it best to start on a positive note, and what better words to start my blog with than these?… GOODBYE, 2021! I think this last year can be summed up by the words of some little writer you’ve probably never heard of (I jest, of course!) when he wrote: ‘It was the best of times. It was the worst of times’. While 2020 was the infamously unforgettable year that most of us want to forget, 2021 has been much more of a mixed bag. It has been a year of conspiracies, vaccines and reunions. Progress and stalling, economic triumphs, economic losses, lockdowns and freedoms. And however the year has been for you personally, I think we can all agree that a little more stability and normality throughout this new year would be extremely welcome!
For me, 2021 will be remembered as the scene from the film depiction of our lives in which the killer comes back, and we find out that it has had babies! You think you’ve killed the monster off, and then – horror of horrors – he comes back for a sequel. Some people are calling this recent Omicron variant “nature’s vaccination”, while other people are calling for lockdowns and quick action to manage the spread. What this reminds us, mostly, is that people will continue to disagree with one another until the end of time! That’s humanity, for all its faults…
Don’t let it divide us. Try to appreciate coming together again, in whatever form or shape we find that taking place as the year plods on. And have a very, VERY Happy New Year!
